NBC 4 DC News, Digital, & Community Affairs Internships – Academic Year

As an NBCUniversal Academic Year intern, you’ll work on real projects, be part of our collaborative culture, and get the support you need to grow - across two full semesters. Academic Year Internship Program Details Program Dates: September 21, 2026 – April 23, 2027 Time Commitment: 16-24 hours per week. Exact schedule to be determined based on business need.  We will do our best to accommodate course schedules. Format: Opportunities listed will require an intern to work from Washington, DC. Academic Year Recruitment Timeline April 20: Applications open May 8: Applications close at 11:59pm ET (we recommend you submit your application as soon as possible – applications may close earlier due to applicant volume!) NBCUniversal Local’s stations and networks serve diverse audiences and communities across linear, streaming, OTT, digital web, mobile and audio, and cable platforms and work together to keep local audiences informed anytime and anywhere.      Areas of placement may include, but are not limited to: News Participate in daily editorial process: planning, researching, newsgathering, logging, writing and editing Learn editorial and technical aspects of news gathering Shadow producers and assignment editors Produce individual news stories for demo reels and online Participate in studio anchor session Research view calls and tips and assist on the assignment desk Digital Pitch, report and write news and features Pitch, shoot and edit packaged video pieces for social media platforms in conjunction with the Digital staff and on-air reporters Identify opportunities for interaction on social media platforms with live conversations between reporters and story sources Cut video from linear shows for use on websites, apps and social media Identify opportunities for graphics and data visualization Shadow digital editors, TV producers, assignment desk editors and others Community Affairs Assist with planning community meetings and receptions for 50-100 people Refresh stations’ partner and influencer lists Research feature opportunities for community segments and shows Write engaging solution-focused articles for station websites Assist with planning and set up of dynamic live shots in the community Spanish language writing and speaking proficiency a plus
