Managing Editor, Copy, NBC News Digital
NBC News Digital is hiring a managing editor to oversee the writing and framing of our most prominent journalism, appearing on the “front page” of NBCNews.com. This person should be an experienced journalist with a proven track record of impeccable news judgment. The person should feel comfortable handling complex and sensitive journalism across a wide range of subject areas and have the ability to read copy for rigor while serving as a final editor before publication. Just as equally, the right candidate will be an exceptional editor and writer, able to elevate copy as the story demands. The mainbar of the day’s major news should have scope and sweep, the piece of rapid enterprise reporting should have excellent transitions, the day 2 follow should have a concise narrative arc, and so on. The editor should also have an encouraging and motivating manner with the reporting and editing teams, and be able to tell when more information is needed before publication. This person will report to the senior executive editor. The role is based in New York or Los Angeles. The person should feel comfortable working a later day, as the majority of the copy is delivered in the afternoon to early evening.
