Associate Director, Commerce Operations & Merchandising

NBC News Digital (Shop TODAY, TODAY Steals & Deals, TODAY Boxes) is seeking an Associate Director, Commerce Operations & Merchandising to help scale our commerce business. In this role, you will lead merchandising strategy and operations across Shop TODAY’s DTC initiatives, serving as a key connector between Editorial, Partnerships, Finance, and top-tier merchants, while overseeing and identifying key operational solutions to enhance execution and support scalable growth. Launched in November 2023, the Shop TODAY Curated Box program (today.com/boxes) has quickly become a meaningful and fast-growing part of our commerce ecosystem. This role will be instrumental in expanding this business by optimizing workflows, identifying wholesalers and white label vendors, assisting in building a subscription business, and supporting in developing the infrastructure needed to support long-term growth. The ideal candidate brings a merchandising mindset and a deep passion for retail, with an intuitive understanding of product, consumer behavior, and what drives conversion. This role will manage 1–2 direct reports and report to the Head of Commerce Partnerships. Responsibilities: Lead merchandising strategy and operations across Shop TODAY’s DTC commerce initiatives, with primary ownership of the Curated Box program (today.com/boxes) Own end-to-end execution, including product sourcing, merchant and brand partnerships, inventory planning, fulfillment, and customer experience Manage and grow merchant and wholesale relationships, from onboarding through ongoing partnership development Partner cross-functionally with Editorial, Studios, Partnerships, Legal & Standards, Finance, and external stakeholders to execute commerce initiatives seamlessly Drive process improvements and implement scalable systems to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and support business growth Evaluate and implement new partners, tools, and solutions to streamline workflows and support expansion into new commerce initiatives Launch a subscription business and find ways to scale box production outside of our standard volume
